The FA Physical Education Unit

In September 2017 The FA’s Physical Education Unit expanded from 8 to a team of 20. The primary goal of the department is to support teachers and coaches within schools in their delivery of high quality Physical Education.

 

Ryan Davies – Regional PE & Coaching in Education Coordinator (North East)

Ryan has recently been appointed as the Regional PE and Coaching in Education Coordinator for the North East region. Ryan has 10 years’ experience as a Head of Department and Physical Education teacher in both Primary and Secondary settings, alongside coaching in a Premier League Academy. As part of the role Ryan is available to provide tailored PE CPD sessions to teachers and trainees throughout Northumberland as well as delivering the FA Primary Teachers Award (see below). All sessions and courses are delivered free of charge by The FA.

FA Primary Teachers Award

Overview:

The FA Primary Teachers Award is 6 hours in duration and completely free to candidates. The course focuses on all aspects of the National Curriculum for Physical Education at both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, with the aim of boosting the confidence and enhancing the delivery of those who teach PE in a primary school environment. The course is FA certificated and candidates receive a resource pack to complement the learning. For a course to be delivered all that is required is a suitable venue.

What is it?

The FA’s Primary Teachers’ Award has been designed to help various groups with a basic awareness of the contribution of an invasion game (football) to the Physical Education Purpose of Study at KS1 and KS2, linking relevant subject content to support pupil learning.

 

Who is it for?

This award is aimed at Qualified practising primary school teachers and those working towards becoming a primary teacher (e.g. currently studying for a PGCE Primary qualification). This course can also be accessed by the following groups; Higher Level Teaching Assistants (HLTA’s), Undergraduate PE/Sport Coaching students considering primary teaching as a career,

 

Facility Requirements

Suitable indoor sports hall or gym, toilet and changing facilities. FA Education will provide course resources and equipment.

By the end of this course, the learner will be able to:

Recognise the role invasion games have in KS1 and KS2 PE purpose and study.

Explain The FA’s playing and Coaching philosophy.

Set up organised lessons.

Organise basic FUNdamental games to help develop movement skills.

Modify learning activities to manage difference.

Set up small sided games for young players.

Help with school teams and provide further playing opportunities for pupils.
