Both teams started the game well. The game was flowing at a very fast pace but on 13 minutes Northumberland took the lead.
A great little touch from Alicia Mutrie on the half way line sent Erin Nelson on a mazy run down the left, before cutting in towards goal to fire the first goal through the legs of the Cleveland goalkeeper.
A couple of minutes later Ella Metcalfe made a fingertip save down to her left to stop the game going level, conceding a corner in the process. The corner came in from the Cleveland winger causing confusion in the Northumberland box allowing the Cleveland centre forward to coolly slot the ball into the bottom corner to make the game level at 1-1.
The game was tight for the next 10 minutes, both teams retaining the ball well until Katie Archbold slid a perfectly timed pass between the Cleveland centre half and left full back for Anna Soulsby to cut in and slide the ball past the diving Cleveland keeper, making it 2-1 to Northumberland.
The Cleveland centre forward found herself in space on the edge of the box, drilling the ball towards the goal. Ella Metcalf was aware of the danger and produced a spectacular save to turn the ball around the post.
Very quickly after the second Northumberland goal came the 3rd. Another brilliant run from Erin Nelson down the left and a pinpoint left footed cross found Anna Soulsby at the back post where scored her second of the game with a bullet header.
The Northumberland girls went into half time with a comfortable lead at 3-1 and they started the second half the same way they ended the first.
Anna Soulsby picked up the ball on the right wing, made her way across the box and slipped Erin Nelson in on goal on the left. Erin was clinical with her finishing and made it 4-1.
Cleveland put up a good fight in the second half but it looked like the Northumberland girls fitness and determination took over. Goal 5 closely followed the fourth when a shot was deflected into the path of Rebecca Henderson who pounced on the chance to score her first goal for the team. Rebecca got a taste for goal and scored her second goal of the game not long after her first after another through ball.
The girls looked like they were enjoying themselves out on the pitch when they won a corner. Megan Farrell's great delivery which caused a scramble in the box. Chloe Davis netted from close range to make it 7-1.
There was still time for Jayden Maxwell to bag herself a brace. Her first came when she picked up the ball on the right hand side of the box, cutting across the edge trying to find herself some space. She then hit an unstoppable shot into the roof of the goal. The second of her 2 goals came when Alicia Mutrie's shot ricocheted off the cross bar falling at Jayden’s feet. She had the whole goal to aim at and placed it into the bottom corner to make the final score 9-1.
