Report on NSFA Final of ESFA Danone U11 Girls Sevens

ESFA DANONE U11 Girls Sevens

Congratulations to St Teresa's RC Primary School from Heaton, Newcastle for winning last Thursday's County Competition held at Newcastle University's Lonbenton Sports Ground. They now will represent Northumberland in the Regional Tournament later in the year.

The league table below shows how close the competition was. Bede Academy were the only unbeaten team, defeating St Teresa's in their final game. Unfortunately, they only managed draws against Cragside and Cullercoats which left them one point behind the winners. Cragside looked impressive when defeating Highfield in their first game but a narrow defeat by ST Teresa's and a tight 1-1 draw with Bede left them two points short. Highfield started slowly (jet lag?) but came good in their last two games ending with six points. Cullercoats could not match their achievements of two seasons ago when they won the event but they did have a massive effect on the competition by holding Bede Academy to a well earned draw. All of St Columba's were tight affairs. Although didn't win a game they only conceded five goals. Their problem was a lack of goals with them failing to find the net in any game. However, they played with enthusiasm and with a smile on their face!

Obviously St Teresa's must be congratulated on their success. However, all teams should be congratulated on their enthusiasm, attitude and no little skill. They were all a credit to their school and contributed to a successful and enjoyable evening. The team managers must also be thanked for their help and support before and during the event. Girls football has come a long way in the last ten years and this is in no small way due to the commitment and enthusiasm of team managers.

The two referees must be thanked for their efforts. They are great supporters of school's football and were excellent on the night. Finally, I am sure everyone will join me in wishing St Teresa's well when they compete in the next stage of the competion
