Match report Northumberland U16 v Cumbria U16

The match got underway with a Cumbria kick off, and Northumberland seemed to be very positive and dominant in the starting minutes. Within the first minute, there was a goal from good play between Jessica brown and Alicia Mutrie, as Jessica slid the ball through the back four, and Alicia attacked it with precision, however it got stuck between her feet before she blasted it into the bottom corner.

After this first goal, the side seemed to gain a lot of momentum and had a passing and attacking spell for around 10 minutes before another goal from the Northumberland side. The next goal came in the 12th minute, where Rebecca Henderson made a twisting run through the back four before receiving the ball from Erin Nelson’s unbelievable pass over the top of this struggling defence.

The game continued to be one sided, with Northumberland dominating possession and gaining more and more confidence. There was then another goal in the 14th minute, and this started from our solid defence, Grace Ayre managed to beat two midfielders before playing a ball through to Alicia who then hit a first time cross to Rebecca Henderson and the top striker calmly finished. Rebecca’s hattrick wasn’t far away, as she received an excellent ball through from Erin Nelson In the 16th minute, and went around the keeper before putting the ball away. HATRICK FOR REBECCA HENDERSON, fabulous stuff from the team!

Northumberland began to control the game with ease, as 4 substitutes were made, which included the next goal scorer- Jayden Maxwell. As the 23rd minute approached, Jayden was hot on her heels, and intercepted a shocker from the keeper before coolly sliding the ball into the bottom right corner. The next goal came in the next 2 minutes, inside the 25th minute Jessica Brown is played to by Megan Farrell who plays an outstanding diagonal pass. It is then received by Jessica Brown, who delivers a lovely through ball to Anna Soulsby, where her finish is clinical.

As the game follows, within the 26th minute Northumberland got their sixth and completely sealed the game off. This goal came from a spell of outstanding play within the team, going through the defence, into the midfield and up to the lone striker of Chloe. Where the ball was placed over the top by Anna Soulsby and Chloe Davies pounced to finish the game off with the sixth. But the team did not stop there, with the next goal coming in the 37th minute as Jayden picks up the loose ends of a poor clearance from the keeper and buries the ball into the goal.

The dominating Northumberland team started the second half very positively, with a diving header from Jayden Maxwell after a cross from Rebecca Henderson which skimmed the cross bar. The Northumberland team dominated throughout the first part of the second half as they sailed with ease to their 9th goal. This goal came from, once again, fabulous play from the midfield to then be received by the striker - where Anna Soulsby played a splitting ball to Jayden and with her huge efforts she slotted it past the keeper into the bottom left corner. Another goal, another HATRICK, but this time for Jayden Maxwell.

Their next goal approached not long after the 10th, where Erin Nelson is clinical with her play as she darts past two defenders after receiving another great ball from Anna Soulsby, before she smashes it into the goal within the 50th minute. After the 10th, the next goal came within the 53rd minute as Jayden scores her fourth of the game after a through ball from Katie Archbold.

As the game was beginning to draw to a close, there were still many goals left in the tank from this dominant side of girls. The next occurred in 55th minute, and involved some lovely football from the girls. Where Megan Farrell picks up the ball in her own half before drilling it into Rebecca Henderson before the striker calmly drills the ball home. The 13th goal is something special, with Anna Soulsby being set the ball back by Megan Farrell and scoring what is commonly known as a SCREAMER from 25 yards out!

As the last ten minutes of the game approached, the next goal occurred in the 61st minute and involved Anna Soulsby skipping past two defenders after positively winning back possession for her team. Not long after, the next goal occurred that involved Jayden Maxwell being played the ball through by Alicia Mutrie before absolutely blasting the ball into the top hand corner.

Within the last two minutes of the game, two goals were scored from two of the Northumberland defenders, the first being Grace Ayre who made an excellent run through the midfield and defence before sliding the ball through the keeper’s legs for the 16th goal of the game. Finally, the game was settled with a beaming run from Georgia Richardson who smashed the ball into the back of the net to finish it off.
